The voice of the future on climate change

Here in Doha, Qatar, the second week of the UN climate negotiations is underway. The stakes are high. At these talks, world leaders decide what we will — or won’t — do about climate change. This is where the future of our species is being negotiated, with a deadline of 2015 to secure an agreement.

When I first learned about the negotiations, I thought about the world in which I want to raise my kids and knew I had to be there. I have traveled from Milton to Doha as a US youth delegate to take part in this process and advocate for my future.

Thanks for going, and for speaking out on this issue.  What's being negotiated in Doha which really matters, though?  Until the US decides to cap its carbon emissions, what is the purpose of negotiating with the other countries?  I'm not trying to be provocative — aren't the real negotiations within Washington?

US emissions are down 1.8% for 2011, while China (+9.9%) and India (+7.5%) are both up considerably.

Thanks for doing this, as Abigail Borah -- also from New England -- did last year. The posts above are both right, I think. Something needs to change in DC, but we also need global agreements.
