Scott Brown

A pleasure and a privilege

For the past three years, I have had the great honor and privilege of serving the people of Massachusetts in the Senate. Although I served for only three years, and losing this past election was disappointing, that disappointment is tempered by the great respect I have for the judgment of the people of this Commonwealth. To all the people of Massachusetts, I count myself in your debt, for the confidence you placed in me, and for allowing me to represent you.

When I arrived as a newcomer in the Senate, a lot of courtesies were extended to me. Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren deserves and will receive the same over the coming weeks, as I look forward to helping my successor make a good start. Like me, she’ll be confronted with difficult choices and tough calls. I was encouraged to hear her say following the election that she recognized how people — including many who supported me — yearned for a new era of bipartisan cooperation, and that she would work in that spirit to help get things done. That’s a cause worthy of all our support, and I wish her the best.

Good Luck Mr. Brown, thank you for trying to pay for spending bills, if everyone in washington had that attitude we wouldn't be 16 trillion in debt.

Oh right. He made sure the oil companies got theirs, though.

Brown voted for reform only after giving big banks a huge tax cut. Check out link below. Wall Street's Favorite Senator.

He also had to pushed support repealing DADT. His piece makes it seem like he was a strong supporter.

I don't have to agree with a politician to respect his service and though no longer a Mass. resident I can still say Mr. Brown deserves credit for the work he did for the people of Mass.  Anyone who serves in a public capacity has my respect and sympathy.  Unless Mr. Brown is a lover of being high profile and a target for every puny public grievance I can tell him from experience, your life will be much quieter and enjoyable now that you are once again a private citizen.

I hear you with respect to how hard it must be to be on that big public stage, the scrutiny, the partisanship etc. With Brown I just wish he would have the sand to state where his true allegiance is. I don't trust him. Look at the timing of this "Aww shucks folks, thanks for the chance to serve" snowjob. This is not an honest thank you, it's more of a vacuum cleaner salesman sticking his foot in the door so you can't close it. As soon as Rice is out, the political posturing begins. Why didn't we see this piece last week? The week before?

I agree with Giermund. This isn't goodbye, it's hello again. The kind words about Senator Warren are the big clue.

Scott brown learned that you cannot have it both ways. You represented a state that embraces a kinder gentler approach to social problems by offering support services. You supported the republican platform which is founded on greed and then you said your for us?   Well no if your for them your not for us. Hope you learned your lesson .

Same guy , same votes, tool of the far right and charleton. Will say anything to get elected.

All the partisan bashing of Senator Brown here is saddening. He was a very solid senator- and everyone (besides left wing sources maybe) recognized that he is one of the last remaining bipartisan moderates of either party. Its too bad this state is too far removed from reality that it will disregard these things because of party label. While I'm deeply upset by the fact that we will be represented by Elizabeth Warren in the Senate, here's to hoping that Kerry becomes Secretary of State, Brown will be able to run again to fill his seat. He's popular enough to do so and it would be a grave injustice for this guy to be permanently removed from MA statewide politics.

I've really had enough of this "bipartisan" nonesense attached to this man's name.  For one thing, what is his position on the Fiscal Cliff issue?  I don't believe I've heard him say one word about it.  If he's so bipartisan, why hasn't he come out in favor of compromise and moving along the process?  And I'm supposed to want to vote for him when he decides to run again for Kerry's seat?  NOT...

Bipartisan?  Tax cuts for the rich, Blunt amendment, etc.  A conservative in bipartisan clothing.

Respectfully, Mr. Brown, your ego seems to know no bounds. Shuck the truck and the barncoat and get over yourself. I was willing to give you a chance until I witnessed your behavior in the debates. You strike me as a narcissist of the first order, and little more.

Why is this in the newspaper? Shouldn't this be made available to the media as a press release, and then a "news"paper would assess if the information warrants publishing?

He is still just an empty suit who won't just GO AWAY. And he won't say a word about his position on higher taxes for the rich because he is still just another Republican idiot.

Well, you didn't do a very good job. Your finger was always in the wind. You "procedural" nonpartisanship didn't make the cut. When it came to issues like tax equity, you were on the wrong side.

And your character attack-based re-election campaign was an embarrasment.

In the end, you weren't even a "nice guy."

There was a Globe Blogger who wrote that the Massachusetts Democrats would vote for a ham sandwhich if it was labeled, "Democrat." It is embarrassing to read some of the vitriol written by the Globe Bloggers. Many comments have absolutely no validity - simply voicing opinions supported by nothing more than vulgar hatred. This can also be said of Obama, their leader, who once said, "If you have nothing to say_ just attack." This could very well be the Democratic mantra.

The Boston Globe becomes the "Democrat Rag" with every election in this state and fail to hold the Democrat politicians accountable during election. Democrats cannot seem to understand it is that the media playing the role of cutting down the challengers to the Democrat mission of winning for winning sake. It could be that the media would not have any scandals to sell newspapers without the Democrats.
