Lord knows Stacey Jackson had every right to nurse a grudge against the world. Her son, Jerry Brown, died in a car wreck, just six weeks into his career with the Dallas Cowboys. Other mothers might have cursed the man responsible for his death. Josh Brent, the Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle behind the wheel that night, had a history of driving drunk. But instead, Stacey hugged Josh and invited him to sit with her family at her son’s funeral.
“I know he is hurting just as much as we are,” she told CNN. “Him and Jerry were like brothers.”

Very good column. On behalf of the majority of our community of commentators i would like to apologize to Ms. Stockman for the vile and unconscionable behavior of one of our own, as represented today and indeed most days on this site, behavior such as most lesser papers would not tolerate.

It's hard to believe any single subscription is so valuable that such an individual's prevarications and provocations should be tolerated. Considering the the extreme ease with which some users are able to have others' comments removed is enough to make one wonder if perhaps one of the moderators is, in fact, the abuser, but I cannot be bothered with such speculations because I don't know how the comments board or the overall digital site is set up. I would think a NY Times company would use the same software as is found for the NY Times itself, which works quite well. Anyhoo, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, Ms. Stockman, and everyone who enjoys commenting and/or reading comments.
