Today, a young gay man growing up in a small town, in a deeply conservative home, can look out his window and see his country evolving. Just a few years ago, his military barred him from serving openly, a hate crime committed against him might have gone unpunished as such, and his Congress was debating whether or not to amend the Constitution to render him a second-class citizen. Today, America looks so much more like a country that embraces him, even if discrimination still prevails in his church, his schoolyard or around his dinner table.
But even as this incredible transformation takes place nationwide, one group we trust to teach America’s children well has stood firmly against giving this young gay man the hope of an inclusive future: the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America.

Local troops are often sponsored by religious institutions. That's why the national organization is deferring to the local sponsor - they can't impose a condition contrary to the faith of the local sponsor. This is a reasonable compromise. How about giving them some credit for a dramatic change in their position instead of criticism?
So Gene aand Chad your position is that tolerance of others is bad? Since you both represent groups that ask for this very tolerance all day every day, this seems pretty hypocritical to me. Physician heal thyself.
I don't share the view of the Suthern Baptist churches either BTW also crying foul. But give the BSA the credit for trying to find a way to save the ship of Scouting altogether. It's a very very worthwhile organization for kids. 30 years ago it changed my life.
You're being totally absurd. Tolerance of intolerance is an oxymoron. It is not okay to teach discrimination. And no, they are asking for acceptance not tolerance.
