Time will reveal the true Scott Brown.  He is in no way a "leader" and would make a terrible govenor.  He is like a flag - with him you can't predict what the weather will be but you can certainly tell which way the wind is blowing at the moment.

This smarmy little hit on Scott Brown just proves that Joan is not a serious commentator.  She dislikes people who happen to belong to the Republican Party, and seeks silly little nothings to attack them with.  Has Joan EVER done a piece like this on a Barney Frank or Ted Kennedy? Clearly, their behavior was at times far worse than anything ascribed to Scott Brown.  But Joan is just a Globe Cheerleader, which means making smarmy attacks on people like Brown.

If Scott was a Democrat this would have been a one day story.  If this is what Joan can do on her own she'd be better off going back to plagiarizing boilerplate from Todd Domke.

Scott Brown  thinking of runnning for Governor of our state is a big JOKE.   He is in no way capable.  As previously stated he goes which ever way the wind blows.  He would be the perfect rainmaker for some law firm because he could schmooz with potential customers and never have to put too much effort into using a thought process.  Being a FOX commmentator is also where he belongs--he will be told what to say that denigrates anything that the President does or says and then he can feel good about himself.  Scott, please do not embarrass the electoral process again in MA by running for governor.

Tweeting?  Pols will now be held accountalbe for their "tweets".  I'm not a big fan of Brown and I realize the piece is about his credibility in general, but use "tweets" as a pivot point.  I can hear it now at some confirmation hearing for a cabinet post, "In 2013 did you tweet Iranians love their mullahs."  Or did you tweet, "I like sex on a beach from a bar."  Tweets?

Tweets are silly little postings by folks who think other folks care if they are on the toilet or getting ready to play football. Tweets?  No, tweet reviews are not journalism.  Brown is a clutz politically but he no more than anyone else desrves a hit for stupid tweets.  After all, all tweets are stupid.

Joan, I expect more articles coming about scott Brown, after all, you wouldn't want to write about an issue that's important to the tax payer, you know Joan, welfare fraud or all the corruption in this state, no never.

Does anyone actually believe that after he tweeted "whatever" his pocket then replied with "bqhatevwr"? It more than strains credulity. Scott Brown has a lying problem. Clearly from these comments people still like him and are willing to pretend like his lies don't matter. Scott, if you can't admit you made a stupid mistake on something silly and irrelevant and have to blatantly lie to cover it up, how do you expect us to trust you in any elected position where you are actually dealing with stuff that's important?

If this was his first lie, I would agree it is silly. It isn't, he just makes things up and expects people to believe him because, well he's Scott Brown. What has this guy ever accomplished?

We've all fat-fingered text on our phones - and that's all Brown really needed to say about that tweet.  Launching into an improbable story will just keep it alive, and in this case the "any press is good press" thing may not apply. 

More serious is his continuing penchant for saying things that just aren't true.  I watched his Fox debut, and he reiterated his claim that he wrote the STOCK Act bill that was signed into law.  Of course, it was really Joe Lieberman's bill that became law - Brown's didn't make it out of committee.  And this from a guy that claimed to read every bill before voting on it.

I suspect his Fox job comes with a great paycheck, but will also provide reams of material for anyone running against him for governor, even from his own party.  If nothing else, it gives him time to write his 2nd book - perhaps one discussing his thoughts on the great political thinkers of history (a la Palin's 2nd book).

Eh. This is petty. Old news. I'd rather the rest of the country see this as the topical Scott Brown story. Here, in Massachusetts, where he lives, where everyone he knows lives, we should be able to have better columns about him. 

The entire premise of this article would be considered comical if it weren't so sad. In a state where convicted felons can get re-elected, where if your last name begins with a certain letter and ends with a certain letter the rest of your “credibility” doesn’t matter, where you can blatantly lie about your heritage to get a step up and be elected, we contemplate a random tweet and talk seriously about “credibility” with regard to whom we elect. This state and in particular this news paper and even more in particular this journalist, have long ago lost their credibility to talk about credibility.

Scott Brown was a senator.  Check

Scott Brown is likely to run for governor.  Check

Scott Brown had a reputation as being a "nice guy" which helped him with democrates.  Check.

Scott Brown showed an uglier side when he realized Warren was a legitimate threat, damaging his brand.  Check.

Scott Brown somehow releases petulant and ungrammatical tweets and devises a comically improbable justification for them.  Check.

Because this column concerns the character and truthfulness of a man who has a good shot at being our next governor, it strikes me as highly relevant.  Character counts.  The ad hominem attacks on the writer, or the assertion that she is some kind of liberal assassin strike me as a childishly partisan denial of facts.  Or trolling.

Fortunately, most of the odd comments I see in the Globe are probably generated by a dozen or so ideological zealots who do not and cannot be representative of Massachusetts in general.  We are, as New Englanders, too common sensical and logical for such blind allegiance to any party or club.

The larger point is that the more we get to know Scott Brown, the less there is to "know". He's probably a nice man. I say "probably" because I don't actually know him. But he has always come across as a guy you would probably be happy to have as your next door neighbor. But a United States Senator? The Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? This is just not a guy who has given lots of serious thought and study to the problems the country faces as the 21st century unfolds. Look folks, try to put your agendas aside for the moment. Just imagine for a moment being in a room alone with Scott Brown, and asking him for his analysis of the dynamics of the civil war in Syria and how it affects the United States' interests in the Middle East. Ask him precisely how the Keystone pipeline will either help, detract, or do essentially nothing to address America's energy needs. Ask him to expound for however long it takes on how exactly we should balance tax policy and entitlement policy so we inject some basic fairness into the former and restore fiscal prudence to the latter. Ask him how health care in the most affluent nation on earth can be made more accessible and affordable to the greatest number of our fellow citizens. Ask him what the most realistic, common sense reform to our immigratiion system should look like. I think you'd get either a series of blank stares, or some fairly vague, shopworn, GOP-issued boilerplate. This guy is not an intellectual heavyweight. He's a part-time State Senator from Wrentham and a part-time conveyancing attorney who caught lightning in a bottle in a once-in-a-lifetime confluence of circumstances, and then found himself deeply in over his head as a national celebrity, for reasons I am sure he still can't quite comprehend. We really need to stop taking this guy even remotely seriously. Let him make some money on FoxNews, tossing off scripted "answers" and "analysis" to underhanded, slow-pitch softball "questions" from the likes of Hannity and Van Sustern, and then please just stop pretending that he's a . . . . statesman.

Joan speaks of "a brand he needs to keep fresh and honest." These two adjectives don't really seem to apply to Brown. He MAY have some sort of a future as a nude male model, but that won't translate into too much political capital.

I don't care about Warren's ethnic background, and if she did use it to her advantage (which is highly doubtful) at Harvard so what? If Brown thinks Warrens ethnic background is more important to us than his voting record and his political positions, I doubt he will ever win another election in Massachusetts.

Well said. If Republicans in this commonwealth truly believe they have useful solutions to our collective challenges, they should be able to find far more valid candidates than Brown. If it is only self-interest that motivates these candidates as in Mr. Brown's case, Massachusetts doesn't need you.

Look, I’m not defending SB nor am I trying to make a partisan point.  I’m totally frustrated with joke the media has become. Credibility and character “should” be important factors in choosing our politicians. However it only seems to be when it’s suits a writer or media outlet or a party. The standards are not applied evenly or consistently.  (Regardless of party) Whatever those standards may be. My larger point and one that frustrates me even more is that a large amount of people in this state (I have lived here all my life, was educated here and raised a family here), dare I say perhaps even a majority, don’t seem to care about standards at all as evidenced by the disproportionally high number of our elected officials who have broken the law in and out of office and occasionally get reelected after that information is publicly known! So apparently standards don’t really count for much in MA.. So getting back to the article...again I state, the entire premise is a joke and again I state even more so given the source.

If Joan & her Bosses showed as much outrage over Ms. Warren’s obvious successful use of Dubious Minority Status Claims maybe your paper wouldn’t be in such rough shape.

Ignoring half of your potential clients (and we Work!) is not really a good business strategy.

The 45% of us that the Globe ignores and demeans actually Work and would buy the paper if it wasn't so slanted.

The only smart move Scott Brown has done is to follow the Sarah Palin business model.  His next move might either be working as a lobbyist or doing sports commentary.  He's camera ready and that's his real vocation.  He's really not a lawyer.  I've known too many people who have Ph.D.'s and law degrees and never pursued anything beyond their education.  It's nothing but a decoration on a resume in addition to a bragging right, nothing else.  That's who Scott Brown really is.

If Joan wrote some things about Brown that are not true, I, for one, would like to read the correction(s), with links, please.  Meanwhile, I think she took it easy on him.  I, and many, many others, could add several more gaffes, lies, missteps, fabrications etc to the items she mentioned.  Maybe she just ran out of space.  I will spare the reader, if you have gotten this far, from any more Brownie Points.

Well I've been taken to task so to speak for saying the noise over a "tweet" is kind of silly, but then I think any time we move away from policy to personality we are getting silly.  I know the whole character thing.  But honestly I don't give to many politicians credit for great character.  Men of power tend to be men of great faults.  Even those of limited power and limted arrogance tend to have great faults.  I know I do.  It kind of goes with the territory.  We tend think any and all things are in our reach and that any reasonable excuse far exceeds the ability of those around us to really see through or understand. 

Now I happen to think Mr. Brown is nothing more than a poor opportunist and not a very good pol. He got lucky his first time around facing an even worse pol.  He may get lucky running for gov.  Yet somehow I doubt it.  But if people want to turn on Mr. Brown on his questionable character then that's fine with me too.
