Remedy for remedial courses

A debate is underway about whether the state’s 15 community colleges should serve primarily as gateways to four-year academic institutions or as career pathways to business and industry. It’s not a particularly fruitful debate, however, when so many students arrive incapable of doing college- or certificate-level coursework of any kind.
