Even now, Annan plan is Syria’s best hope

The prospects for Kofi Annan’s cease-fire plan in Syria grow dimmer each day, but the world should not give up on it just yet. Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has promised to end his reckless assault on rebellious neighborhoods Thursday . After a long list of broken promises, world leaders are rightfully skeptical. But while Annan’s plan has only a tiny chance of success, it still provides the best chance of preventing Syria from spiraling into a potentially drawn-out civil war that will destabilize the entire region.
