Bike repairs: Life lessons with a wrench

The late 19th-century social reformer Frances Willard said women who gain “mastery of the bicycle will gain the mastery of life.” In Boston, teenagers are spreading mechanical mastery of bicycles to neighborhoods far from a repair shop. In a new initiative of Bikes Not Bombs called Chain Reaction, teens are rotating an after-school mobile repair and maintenance-lesson shop over the next several months through Roxbury, Dorchester, South Boston, Charlestown and Chelsea.
