Muslim Brotherhood must show moderation in Egypt

THE ELECTION of Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate, to the presidency in Egypt will be a major test of whether an Islamist party can help build a modern democracy. In his acceptance speech, Morsi promised to work with people from across the political and religious spectrum, including Coptic Christians and secular liberals. But the Brotherhood has made such promises before and broken them, perhaps most notably its pledge that it would not field a presidential candidate in this race.

Still, there is reason to hope that Morsi, a 60-year-old engineer who earned his PhD at the University of Southern California, can stike the right balance between religion and political pluralism. Morsi should allay widespread fears about Islamist rule by forming by a national unity government composed of diverse, credible figures, including former UN diplomat Mohamed ElBaradei. Morsi will need all the help he can get as he tries to wrest control from the Egyptian military, which greatly reduced the powers of the president just before the election. The military’s heavy-handed tactics could be a spur to much-needed unity and moderation, if Islamists are forced to join hands with liberal and secular groups in order to present a united front against military rule.

The editorial mentions that the MB has branches in 70 counries but fails to call attention to the fact that America is one of those countries. The MB is the umbrella under which a very long list of alphabet soup Islamic groups operate in this country. Here is their official clearly stated goal. "The Brotherhood must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and god's religion is victorious over all other religions." The key phrase is where they say "by their hands." What this means is that they will work and are working to take full advantage of our preoccupation with multiculturalism and political correctness to sabotage our culture from within. Here's a chilling piece of evidence. Recently directives went out to the military, DHS, CIA and FBI to purge all ducuments of any materiel that could in any way shape or form cast a negative light on Islam, real or immagined. You don't have to be some conspiracy crackpot to assume that this directive is the work of MB operatives who have infiltrated so many of our key agencies. Thankfully all is not lost. Some congressmen are calling for an investigation to find out how and why things like this are happening. Globe, please stop going out of your way to act as an apologist for the MB. They are a very dangerous, determined, sinister and cunning organization. In my opinion they are a far bigger threat than the communists ever were. They have clearly telegraphed their plans - believe them.

I'm sure they are hanging on everyword of this editorial. Do you really beleive the word "diverse" comes up in any of their discussions. In my opinion, there are no good choices for the U.S. in this case; either you get a radical religious party or a thuggish military. Where is the benevolent dictator when you need one.

Moderation? With a name like the Muslim Brotherhood, how moderate can they be? Back to the Middle Ages we go, especially for the women.

Hey Juliette, since you are so convinced that Mohammad Morsi will do the right thing, why don't YOU take a trip to the "Democracy Loving" Egypt, and meet with the "Democracy Loving" Muslim Brotherhood. (And don't forget to wear a burqa, and don't EVER look at any man in the eye)....But you know what? I think that you KNOW that the Muslim Brotherhood is a far more dangerous "brotherhood' than waS Whitey Bulger and his boys in the Mafia. But you want us to look the other way and pretend that the "Brotherhood" is a real brotherhood, and that despite what Mohammad says, Jewish voters shouldn't be concerned when the Islamist leader says that Israel is his no. 1 enemy, and Egypt should tear up its 30 year peace treaty with Israel.........After all, your REAL job is to make us think that Obama (and Hillary Clinton too) knew what they were doing when they put the Brotherhood in power. ------------Actually, Juliette, the "Arab Spring" is Barack Obama WORST foreign policy BLUNDER out of all of his past and current foreign policy blunders. (Either that, or this operation was INTENTIONALLY done to harm Israel)

I just clipped and mailed a copy of this Boston Globe editorial to Mohamed Morsi. I'm sure this will affect him greatly and help change everything.
