A year away from voting, disgusted by what he sees in Washington

I am a 17-year-old high school senior, and, to me, the GOP’s stance on the Affordable Care Act is a travesty. I know what I’ve learned in school, and what I’ve learned is that there are ways to pass and repeal laws — by winning elections and garnering the support of the American people. There are ways to find out whether a law is unconstitutional — by putting it through the Supreme Court.

As someone who will be eligible to vote in the next election, I am disgusted and disheartened by politicians who hold their party’s views over the wishes of the people. What’s just as offensive is the biased and vitriolic media coverage I’ve seen, from many supposedly reputable sources, directed against House Democrats and the president. I’ve seen conservative pundits speaking on the inconsequential nature of the shutdown, and how it is beneficial. Tell that to the 800,000 federal workers on furlough.
