At the risk of being accused of treason, I do question the need for the Red Sox to use a $100,000 bottle of champagne to toast their victory in the World Series (Names, Nov. 1).
I attended the first game of the Series, and am as happy as any fan that they won. That is not the point.
A check for $100,000 to a social service agency that is struggling to provide services for its clients and to give a modest increase to its grossly underpaid staff would have made a huge difference. Teammates could have sprayed themselves with Dom Perignon, and celebrated just as well, for a fraction of the cost.
