Netanyahu could take a cue from Sharon’s later moves

THE GLOBE’S editorial about the death of former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon (“Pragmatic shift toward peace,” Jan. 14) observes that Sharon radically changed paths toward the end of his career, moving from a staunch believer in military force and advocate for building settlements in occupied land to one who believed that these settlements needed to be abandoned and that only a two-state solution would preserve Israel’s security.

Perhaps it is time for Israel’s current prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to experience his personal Ariel Sharon moment.
