Sullivan Square area has been an accident waiting to happen

The tragic death of a bicyclist on Thursday near the Sullivan Square MBTA Station unfortunately was not surprising. The Sullivan Square area is treacherous for walkers, bikers, and motorists. For nearly two decades the Charlestown neighborhood has been working with the City of Boston on a transportation plan for Rutherford Avenue and Sullivan Square that moves pedestrians, cars, and bicycles more safely and efficiently.

Last year the city and the community completed a conceptual plan for a Rutherford Avenue-Sullivan Square redesign that creates a safer, better roadway system. It is definitely time for our city and state politicians to work together to initiate the final design of this project, and to provide the funds to get the project built. Waiting will likely result in more deadly accidents.
