City needs to get serious about motorcycle noise

Bravo to Scot Lehigh for keeping alive the push to get Boston police to enforce the ordinance against loud motorcycles (“Will Boston get bikers to pipe down?” Op-ed, April 30). Last weekend, while waiting in line to enter a concert hall, we were subjected to the ear-splitting blasts of an illegally piped bike.

Motorcycles, like cars, have to be inspected annually with stickers displayed on the bike plate. Passing inspection requires legal pipes. Enforcement would send a strong message to those who violate the rules. The city needs to get serious about compliance. There is no excuse for allowing the brazen crude behavior of immature bikers.
