Tired of nonsense over what to call it: It’s a Christmas tree

I THINK most of us are getting tired of this nonsensical debate over what to call a Christmas tree (“A tree by any other name . . .,’’ Metro, Dec. 8). What else is it if it is only erected at Christmastime and has been called a Christmas tree for centuries? Many people reacting to the controversy in Rhode Island, where Governor Lincoln Chafee calls the state’s lit tree a “holiday tree,’’ want to call it a Christmas tree. A public official is supposed to respond to the people. We don’t see that happening.

What should we call a menorah - a candle holder? On and on we could go.
