NHL sends wrong message on fighting

WHAT DISTURBS me most in the story about TV hockey analyst and former Bruins defenseman and coach Mike Milbury’s alleged assault of a 12-year-old at his son’s youth hockey game in Brookline (“Milbury won’t be charged in alleged assault,’’ Metro, Dec. 24) is the lack of attention to the most important aspect of competitive sports - sportsmanship.

And, of course, a tip of the hat to the National Hockey League for continuing to allow fighting on the ice. What a message that sends young hockey players.
