letters | IN DEFIANCE OF SENATE, OBAMA FILLS CONSUMER POST

Boehner audacious in his rebuke of recess appointment

RE “BYPASSING Congress, Obama fills consumer post: A slap to GOP, which blocked Cordray vote’’ (Page A2, Jan. 5): The sheer dishonesty of House Speaker John Boehner is amazing. He says that President Obama’s recess appointment, under the Constitution, of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is an “unprecedented power grab’’ that “defies centuries of practice.’’ Of course, Boehner does not mention that fellow Republican George W. Bush made 171 recess appointments and Bill Clinton before him made 139.
