SPORTS HERO SKATES INTO THE POLITICAL ARENA | letters

Thomas’s defiance is courageous

MY HAT is off to Tim Thomas. By his courageous act of defiance, he was able to get his point carried onto the front page of the Globe. If he had followed the advice of sports columnist Kevin Paul Dupont (“Tim Thomas wrong to skip White House trip,’’ Jan. 24), no one would have noticed or cared about Thomas’s political opinions, as they would have been lost in the pomp and ceremony of the White House. No thanks to Dupont’s acrimonious derision of Thomas’s political opinion, the goalie’s words were widely aired.
