Social Security ‘trust fund’: It’s smoke and mirrors

By any accounting standard, except maybe a standard used in government accounting, there is no fund supporting either Social Security or Medicare, writes Thomas J. DeSimone. To imply that we have somehow funded a portion of these obligations is a statement that, if issued by a public company, would prompt an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
