Curbing health costs, preventing obesity are linked

Thanks to Yvonne Abraham for shining a light, in two recent Metro columns, on the need to control health care costs and prevent obesity, write Karen van Unen and Dr. Carole E. Allen. These two goals are inextricably linked. Beacon Hill is about to consider major legislation to curb health care costs. But this effort cannot succeed if we don’t combat the root causes of costly health conditions — all linked to obesity — such as diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.
