Immigration policy smacks of creeping fascism

Ellen Cantarow writes: Secure Communities is first cousin to the National Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes indefinite detention of anyone judged, by the sole power of the executive, as aiding in “terror.” Anyone who knows the history of world fascism knows that when tyranny is on the march, “aliens” fall first, followed by all dissenters.

A country is never safer by making it's citizens mistrustful of the authorities. Immigrants, particularly the undocumented, have a lower incidence of illegal behavior than their "native born" counterparts. The local police depend on the cooperation of the public to catch and prosecute criminals. If the police policies are racist and random, no one will trust them enought to come forward.

If the illegals don't get arrested for committing crimes, then the law will have no effect on them. The purpose of it is to catch the non-lawabiding illegals.
