A wedding toast, and a roast

I was quite touched by Joanna Weiss’s May 15 op-ed about Barney Frank (“A 40-year journey”). I admire Congressman Frank enormously, and have been grateful to him over the years for his integrity and tireless service. I was appreciative to read his process of coming out, and about his happy relationship and upcoming marriage.

However, when I read his explanation for why President Obama is not invited to his wedding, I had to take issue. Frank said that it was nothing personal, but that “the Secret Service could ruin any party.” I feel obliged to point out that, from what I’ve heard, those Secret Service guys are really good at partying.
