Patrick’s nonprofit raises questions

RE “Donors helping Patrick travel: Top executives, firms contribute much of funding” (Page A1, May 23): Governor Patrick’s so-called nonprofit, Moving Massachusetts Forward, seems to me to be nothing but a bank account where powerful executives are making cash deposits. This is not how government is supposed to operate. It is subversive to consider this as partnering with the private sector. One contributor already has a government contract. Another has a stake in the outcome of pending state legislation. I find this appalling.

Government business should not be conducted with any funds derived in this fashion. Costs should be borne by the electorate only.

The activities of Moving Massachusetts Forward need to be scrutinized in depth by the Commonwealth. Other elected officials should take a closer look.

Never mind what other states are doing. What is happening in Massachusetts appears to be the epitome of influence peddling, no matter what you call it.
