RE “PATRICK endorses Warren’s bid: Governor had vowed to avoid primary fray” (Metro, May 31): I am deeply offended by Governor Patrick’s attempts to sweep under the carpet the potential ethical violations of Elizabeth Warren when it comes to her heritage. When he said that he was speaking “on behalf of the people of the Commonwealth,” and that “we don’t care about that subject,” he was absolutely wrong. He was not speaking on my behalf, and I trust he will never make such an assumption again.
As do many in this state, I care deeply about this issue. Claiming to be someone you are not to curry favor in any hiring practice is unethical and wrong. Warren needs to address the appearance of this head-on, not hide behind the state’s governor.
In addition, the fact that Patrick would endorse a candidate before we know whether she has a rival in the primary reeks of political garbage. I can only hope that Democratic challenger Marisa DeFranco gets on the ballot and has her say.
This whole episode reflects the very worst in our political system, as it smacks of trying to give someone an edge who may not deserve it. Shame on Patrick.
