Enough of this noncontroversy over ancestry claims

Aram Boghosian for The Boston Globe

Elizabeth Warren spoke during the 2012 Massachusetts Democratic Endorsing Convention.

I read with some amusement and a bit of nostalgia the so-called controversy surrounding the claim by Elizabeth Warren that she has Native American blood.

As a boy growing up in a multi-ethnic family, I learned from my mother that she was 1/16 Native American, which made me 1/32 Native American. I was always proud of that, though I have no certified document that definitively identified me as such. My mother’s word was enough for me.

There is no evidence that Warren took advantage of her claim to this ancestry, so why are we still talking about it?
