Let’s put that young dynamo argument to the test

WIthrespect to the so-called young dynamo argument as it pertains to teacher assignment, I would like to know whether columnist Lawrence Harmon and the members of the Globe’s editorial board plan to have their next surgery done by “dynamic” young doctors. Are they going to passionate young dentists for their root canals and bridgework? Does “talent, not time,” mark these medical practitioners as well?

As a Boston teacher, and a parent of four children who attended the Boston Public Schools from kindergarten through high school graduation, I can tell you that good teachers are not necessarily under 30 years of age, nor are they simply born, not made. Good teachers are well-trained, well-mentored, and well-supervised in addition to other successful work habits and personal qualities they possess.
