Public radio has responsibility to listeners, not ratings
Len Lyons writes: Jazz is not only great music, it is an indigenous American music that documents artistically the unique culture of America and especially the history and musical genius of African-Americans. Not everyone can program this music responsibly and with understanding. We have this capability in Eric Jackson and Steve Schwartz. To reduce what these broadcasters and jazz have to offer deprives the station’s listeners of one of the distinguishing features of WGBH programming.
