With loving homes in clear view, views on marriage equality evolve

There is truth in what Jeff Jacoby says, that some people — no matter the facts or data — will always perceive gay and lesbian parents as inferior to straight parents or some group of people as inherently inferior to another (“Forget the facts; our minds are made up,” Op-ed, June 20).

But society’s views do evolve based on facts. What often changes minds about gay and lesbian parents is when people see gay friends who do a wonderful job raising healthy, thriving children. Seeing children nurtured in a loving household tends to move people toward becoming more supportive of their gay friends and of marriage equality.
