JEFF JACOBY’S Independence Day column praising the absence of a monarchy in the United States is greatly diminished by his disrespectful comments about “lesser breeds across the pond” and about the British royal family (“Celebrating, royal-free,” Op-ed, July 4).

It may be that he personally doesn’t envy the Brits, but he is out of touch with how a majority of Americans feel about the British monarchy and what they stand for.

He would do well to engage in a little more research or resort to the latest polls on the subject in both America and the United Kingdom.
