Boston can do better

HOW MANY poor decisions does Superintendent Carol Johnson have to make before she goes back to Memphis? Since she has come to Boston, the US Justice Department decided English language learners were not getting the services owed to them; transportation has been a nightmare this year for students and parents; and students with special education services are not getting their due because of compliance violations. Now we find out about her covering up Rodney Peterson’s criminal charge and probation?

For the more than $250,000 she is paid, the taxpayers are certainly not getting their money’s worth. I find it shocking that, according to the Globe, “Johnson remained high on Peterson” after Odyssey High School closed because of “poor academic performance” under his leadership.

Maybe instead of blaming teachers for all that is wrong with the Boston Public Schools, the caliber and teaching experience of recently appointed administrators should be scrutinized.
