To the man in the pickup truck: Your truck was about three cars ahead of mine near the tragic accident scene on Route 24 North last Thursday (“Girl, 12, killed in Route 24 crash in Avon,” Metro, July 13). You may think that no one will remember what you did, but I always will, and I want to say thank you.
At first, I thought you might be an off-duty police officer, but now believe you were just one of us private citizens who gradually realized that people ahead of us were in desperate need of medical attention. First there were helicopters and police cars, then more helicopters and police cars, and then came the ambulances and fire trucks. We heard their warning sirens well before they appeared behind us. But the ambulances and fire trucks could not get through the gridlocked lanes of autos.
