In the shadow of Yahoo CEO’s ascent

Marissa Mayer will lead Yahoo.

Am I supposed to be impressed that Yahoo’s newly appointed, pregnant incoming CEO Marissa Mayer will take only a brief maternity leave and will be working throughout? She has all the financial resources needed to hire a number of service providers to keep her household humming along while she answers e-mails and takes calls (“Mother-to-be CEO rivets the working world,” Page A1, July 18).

The true working heroines walk among us in today’s corporate cube farms, struggling to juggle work responsibilities with parent-teacher conferences, music lessons, sports, and the age-old question of “What’s for dinner?”

These are the women who truly impress and must carefully weigh the consequences of climbing the corporate ladder.
