Controversy underscores need for underground power lines

AS I read your story about NStar clear-cutting all those trees near their power lines, and angering local residents, I couldn’t help think what a huge waste of time it all is. It’s time to stop the madness, and put the power lines underground (“NStar takes heat on tree-removal policy,” Page A1, July 19).

NStar would eventually make its money back, by not having to pay out millions in overtime every time the wind picks up. Not tomention how much better it would look, without having to ravage the landscape.

The way of the future is to put the lines in the ground, so why not get started on it now?
