How many more Americans will be killed before we do a better job of strengthening our gun laws in order to reduce gun violence?
We need more screening in place for the purchase of guns, and more control of where they can be purchased. Why did we let the assault weapon ban lapse?
As a society, we accept that in order to legally drive a vehicle, we must take a driving test, and obtain a driver’s license. The National Rifle Association has succeeded in making too many Americans believe that passing more sensible gun laws means that no one will be legally able to own a gun.
We need sensible gun laws that will reduce the odds that mentally unstable people, such as the recent Colorado shooter, will not have such easy access to guns. What will it take for our politicians to stand up to the seemingly all-powerful NRA and enact and enforce gun laws that will make this country safer?
