Washington’s election-year silence on gun control is deafening

After another mass murder (“Six slain in Wisconsin temple,” Page A1, Aug. 6), will election-year silence from Washington mean that we are to accept our helpless plight? How long will fear continue to triumph over action? Is it too much to ask a president to publicly challenge at least one Republican from each house of Congress to discuss control of high-powered weapons?
