Don’t block our view of Custom House Tower

Safety concerns have been raised over construction of an 11-story apartment building over the southbound entrance to the Tip O’Neill tunnel.

DAVID L. RYAN/GLOBE STAFF

Safety concerns have been raised over construction of an 11-story apartment building over the southbound entrance to the Tip O’Neill tunnel.

The report on concerns about construction of the Victor, a high-rise apartment building, did not mention my biggest objection (Political Intelligence, Metro, Aug. 5). An exceedingly bland structure, the Victor will obstruct the view of the Custom House Tower, perhaps Downtown Boston’s most iconic high-rise, for those entering the O’Neill Tunnel from the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. Views of the Custom House are being obstructed from every angle by mundane skyscrapers, making Boston’s skyline remarkably undistinguished. These views should be considered in planning, if only so we can remember what city we are in.
