Partisan divide drags economy down

Diane Richardson’s Sept. 8 letter “Public-sector jobs drag the economy down” made it clear to me why Democrats and Republicans cannot come to an agreement on how to get the economy moving again.

The other letters published alongside Richardson's eloquently explain the good that public-sector jobs do for us. The jobs of teachers, police, EMTs, and firefighters, to name just a few, are necessary.

How do we get through to people who think they understand economics, and think that these jobs are a drag on the economy?

As we are finding out, the economy just sinks further when we cut these jobs.
