Candidate is right: Many will not take responsibility for themselves

RE Romney says dependent 47% back Obama” (Page A1, Sept. 18): Mitt Romney has nothing to apologize for. He stated the truth that some people will not take responsibility for themselves, and that some see themselves as “victims.”

I am a lower-middle-class citizen, and am tired of counting my change at the store to pay for my groceries when the person in front of me, dressed to the nines in designer clothes, just slides his or her EBT card, and walks out into a new car.

Very well said. The liberals are trying to skewer him over this but I for one am happy to finally hear a politician speak the truth.

There's an old Jewish proverb I'm sure you have heard but forgotten: "I felt sorry for myself because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet." Count your blessings. You are not in a hospital, probably in good health, can walk, think and speak, are not blind or disabled , probably have a home and people who care about you.  Take a good look at who the 47% includes.  You will be surprised that it comprises the military(!), Social Security retirees(!), the infirmed and disabled(!), people living on a pension after a lifetime of work(!)http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2012/09/who_are_the_moochers.php

And a lot of Republicans with special tax credit treatment who pay NOTHING!

It's called cognitive dissonance.  We subconsciously distort reality to fit what we already believe.  My wife works as a clerk at a retail business.  I imagine she spends more time in front of a cash register than the person that made this observation.  I asked her about EBT cards and her observation was quite different.  I wonder how the reader might have observed the customer getting into a new car at the same time she was in front of the cash register or how often this has been observed.  I don't doubt for a moment the reader believes she has made these observations but it is unlikely she actually has.
