Letters | A Glimmer into the life of Jesus

Cartoon’s mockery of Jesus is an outrage

I am so greatly upset, offended, and appalled by Mike Luckovich’s editorial cartoon in the Globe’s Sept. 21 issue. The person of Jesus Christ is sacred to all Christians, and to make him into an object of such mockery is outrageous.

Considering the condemnation of recent insulting depictions of the prophet Mohammed, this is even more heinous. Is it that Christianity has become the one acceptable prejudice, fair game for any derisive attacks?

I don't see anything outrageous about that cartoon. Heinous? You have got to be kidding. As far as I am concerned, ALL religions should be subject to derisive attacks, on a regular basis, given the overall damage they inflict on society...but this is not a derisive attack. The author should consult a dermatologist about her thin skin.

How is Jesus being mocked in that picture?? Scholar recently says newly studied scrolls may indicate He had a wife / insert very basic nagging wife joke.

Next you'll be saying orthodox Jews should be outraged by the picture too--I mean Jesus was a practicing Jew during his life--what on earth is that unclean pig doing next to his house?!

You should be appalled that all of the pictures of jesus have him looking like Barry Gibb.

My understanding is that Amazon now sells a sense of humor to those who do not currently possess one. I'd be happy to provide the link to the author of this letter.....

I don't understand what is offensive about the cartoon. It seems to deride mariage, not Jesus: the wife is nagging--if anything it seems to be putting down women. I don't get it. Can you explain?
