Swipe at PBS is pandering, not fiscal conservatism

During the first presidential debate, while stating that he liked Big Bird and even moderator Jim Lehrer, Mitt Romney continued to propose eliminating federal subsidies to PBS: a measly $444 million — about $1.42 for every American. It struck me as hypocritical to advocate meaningless cuts to public broadcasting in the name of deficit reduction while promising significant increases in defense spending when it isn’t needed or even asked for. That’s not fiscal conservatism, it’s political pandering.

Supporting educational and children’s programming that encourages critical thinking, problem solving, and working together is far more important and critical to the future success of America than adding to an already bloated defense budget. So, please hold off on purchasing another fighter jet, and just give me Elmo. I’m willing to pay a little more in taxes to cover Big Bird. In a never-ending TV transmission of Snooki, Honey Boo Boo, and Ricki Lake, I’m willing to fork over $1.42 for substance.

Romney fires Elmo in order to give millionaires a tax cut.

Big Bird and Elmo etc MAKES millions from their products, therefore they do not need government payments.....that money can be used better and when the liberals are crying for more money for teachers, why not put it there.

Yes, Sesame Street does make millions in cross marketing, but that money doesn't help Nova or Frontline or American Experience or any of the 100s of worthwhile shows on public broadcasting that are aired without commercials. And, as to the pay for teachers - how did this get wrapped up in the argument for PBS? Are they related?

The question asked by Gov. Mitt Romney was, "Did it make sense to borrow money from China to provide funding for PBS?" GET IT?

Gov. Mitt Romney claimed he also liked "Big Bird" and "John Leher of PBS News HOUR" - but this was used as an 'example' to help the most simple minded person understand the logic of setting priorities for borrowing money from other countries for social programs.

The Obama campaign workers then rent Big Bird costumes to parade and harrass Gov.Romney. So tell me, who is 'out-of-touch,' 'childish' and not worthy to return to the White House for another 4 years?
