No place for idealism

Re “Romney’s foreign policy strikes chords of Bush era” (Editorial, Oct. 10): On April 2, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson went before a joint session of Congress to seek a declaration of war against Germany in order that the world “be made safe for democracy.” Hitler came to power 14 years later.

Idealism doesn’t work in foreign policy, but the military-industrial complex loves it.
