I am appalled by US Representative John Tierney’s ads that portray Richard Tisei as a right-wing extremist, an accusation so absurd as to be laughable. Reasonable people can disagree about issues, but there is no excuse for misleading the voters. I applaud the Globe’s efforts to identify and correct misleading statements in many races, particularly the egregious untruths from Tierney (“Tierney ad attacking Tisei is misleading,” Metro, Oct. 5).
In particular, Tierney attempts to paint Tisei as anti-choice; Tisei is, and has always been, solidly prochoice. I know it; Tierney knows it.

Here's the trouble with partisanship. Dan Fishman, the true Conservative in this race, has run the cleanest and most high-minded campaign in the Sixth District. But the Globe ignores what he has to say. While I don't doubt that Mr. Tisei was kind to the writer and to many others as well, I am equally sure that John Tierney has been similarly kind in similar circumstances. But where is her high dudgeon when Mr. Tierney is portrayed as some kind of guy in alligator shoes and thousand dollar suits, smoking cigars and shooting craps? When you are looking for a fair and balanced assessment of a person's character, don't look to the thirty second slots of his or her opponent for good information. While vile political tactics are as old as the Republic, the modern refinement of low tactics in America can be put in the lap of Newt Gingrich and his GOPAC organization. In the 1990s he provided his minions with a list of adjectives to characterize any opponent, no matter who that person was, as "extreme" or "corrupt" or, worst of all, a "traitor." Citizens United and Karl Rove put his tactics on steroids. But maybe if you gave Dan Fishman a million dollars to spend, he'd descend the ladder too.
If you are fed up with both of these guys and would like to vote for a 3rd party candidate, you can. But it's a (gasp) Libertardian! Oh no!
I laugh everytime I see the Tierney ad painting Tisei as a right-wing extremist in league with Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin. I can't wait to see the ad where Tierney call Tisei a homophobe!
