Lower speed limit to make roads safer

THE GLOBE recently reported that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation aims to triple the amount of non-car travel in our state by 2030. The benefits of such a mode shift range from reducing greenhouse gas emissions to enhancing public health.

Richard Davey, the state’s transportation secretary, believes that people will change their travel habits if they have, for instance, safer cycling and walking routes.

How will you enforce a lower speed limit?

Are they crazy? The only thing low speeds accomplish is lower fuel consumption. Lower speeds increase 'road-rage.' Someone needs to do some more research here.

Furthermore, you want to reduce greenhouse gas emissions - STOP - making those big engine SUVs. Increase the cost of registering those humongous vehicles and charge more for their insurance. But - that would never do, because you notice the drivers of those big vehicles are generally politicians & drug dealers.
