Life is measured by its quality, not its length

THE HEADLINE over Jeff’s Jacoby’s column asks “What about do no harm?” (Op-ed, Oct. 17). For me and many others, “harm” would be keeping me alive when my life is no longer viable. For me, life is measured by its quality, not its length.

One of the ironies in all of this discussion of Question 2 is that if I kept my cat or dog alive under those circumstances I would be called “inhumane.” I'm a human, and I think I should be treated humanely and be able to die with dignity when that time comes.
