Crass campaign tactics in an urban area

On Wednesday morning, I noticed a number of black men standing in the median strip on Tremont Street by Ruggles Station, holding Scott Brown signs. They did not act with the enthusiasm one usually sees in campaign volunteers. That struck me as odd, and as I got closer to the men, I sensed that they might be homeless.

It then occurred to me that they may be getting paid by the Brown campaign, but I assumed that no candidate running in this century would be so crass or socially insensitive to hire homeless black men to pose (not very well) as volunteers in an urban neighborhood.
