I was repelled by Jeff Jacoby’s cynical encouragement to liberals to abandon their support for President Obama (“Obama, the liberals’ bust,” Op-ed, Oct. 21).
Jacoby tries to discourage left-wing readers from supporting the president for reelection because of his imperfect record on liberal causes. Who does he think he’s fooling? Obama has had to make many compromises, some painful to liberals, while maneuvering the realpolitik of a radical right House. But Mitt Romney’s commitment to causes like anti-choice, trickle-down economics, and more unpaid-for adventurous wars make the choice in this election stark and urgent.
