RE “Our biggest problem: Congress” (Letters, Nov. 1): Kenneth B. Cook correctly assesses the outright obstructionism that has prevented progress during the four years of President Obama’s term. Genuine cooperation is desperately needed to fix the woes that burden our country and economy. The failure of our Congress to move forward is solely to blame for our current state of affairs.
The one thing standing in the way of true bipartisan cooperation in Congress today is the Grover Norquist pledge against raising taxes. All members of Congress should withdraw their support of this pledge immediately so that we can move forward in the next four years.

I don't think raising taxes to gain 100 billion dollars a year is our biggest problem, the biggest problem is the 1.1 trillion we overspend every year. I agree with the hike, but when you expect that in ten years it will reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars all the while you added 10 trillion, just doesn't work.
