If only those ad dollars could have been put to real use

Saint Anthony of the Desert was said to have told of a time coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, “You are mad, you are not like us.”

This week brought the end of a political campaign that saw $6 billion poured into campaign ads, more than half of which failed to reach the goal of their contributors. This is madness.

That's six billion dollars in keeping a whole bunch of editors, graphic artists, printers, and (oh yeah) lawyers employed.  By the way.  So, yeah, the various political machines didn't all get their way, but the process is itself not entirely a bad thing.
