Someone let down guard to allow letter to enter fray

What was the purpose of printing Deborah Flanagan’s Nov. 6 letter “Snide shot at Christians was unworthy of the paper,” regarding a previous letter by Robert Curry about Pat Robertson and New York City’s storm tragedy?

Curry’s letter commented on the hypocrisy of some right-wing talking heads who decided that Hurricane Katrina was a personal curse from the Almighty on the citizens of New Orleans. He did not intend to impugn all Christians, and neither did he intend that those same far-right leaders should pass judgment on the unfortunate citizens of New York. Flanagan misunderstood the satiric intent of Curry’s letter.
