A closer look at the Blunt amendment

Your piece on the Senate candidates’ positions (“On the issues,” Metro, Nov. 4) left the impression that the Blunt amendment, which Senator Scott Brown cosponsored, merely “would let employers or insurers refuse to provide birth control or other preventive services they oppose on moral or religious grounds.” True, but incomplete.

Under the amendment, which was defeated in the Senate, employers or insurers would not have had to provide any medical services that they oppose on moral or religious grounds. If you bleed a lot, don’t go to work for an employer who doesn’t believe in blood transfusions or who believes only in praying illnesses away.

Everything Brown said was either incomplete or an outright lie.  He's gone until the next election.  How does everyone feel about ramping up an effort to accomplish the impossible?  Either a special election for US senate replacing John Kerry early next year or a race for the governorship in two years.  Either way, he will be formidable......probably unbeatable, unless.............
